What suspension rods do in a top loader
Suspension rods support the top-loader wash tub and control its movement during washing and high-speed spinning. Each rod commonly works with springs, bushes or damping components to keep the tub centred and absorb vibration.
Signs of worn suspension rods
- The machine shakes or walks across the floor
- The tub bangs against the cabinet during spin
- Repeated unbalanced-load errors with normal loads
- The basket sits low, uneven or off-centre
- The tub continues bouncing excessively when moved by hand while the machine is off
- Spin speed reduces or the machine repeatedly attempts to rebalance
Top-loader suspension rod replacement
We check installation, levelling, load behaviour and the complete suspension system before replacing parts. When suspension rods are worn, replacement as the manufacturer-recommended matched set is often preferable to changing only one rod. The correct kit must match the full model number.
Other faults can produce similar symptoms
Unbalanced loads, an uneven floor, transit components, worn bearings, a loose basket, drive faults or damaged mounts can also cause shaking and noise. Proper diagnosis avoids replacing suspension rods when another problem is responsible.
What about front-loader suspension?
Front-loading machines generally use suspension springs and shock absorbers or dampers rather than the long suspension-rod sets commonly found in top loaders. We also diagnose front-loader bouncing and vibration, including worn dampers, springs, counterweights, bearings and installation problems.
