What different noises may mean
A rhythmic thump can come from an uneven load, while rattling may be caused by an object in the drum or pump area. Grinding, scraping or a deep roar during spin can require inspection of drive or drum components. The timing of the sound is an important clue.
Before requesting service
- Note whether the noise occurs while filling, tumbling, draining or spinning.
- Check that the machine is level and not contacting nearby cabinetry.
- Try a correctly sized, evenly distributed load if the manufacturer allows.
- Stop using the machine if the drum is scraping or visibly out of position.
Protect the machine from further damage
Continuing to run a machine with severe mechanical noise may worsen the damage. A short video can help describe an intermittent sound, but safe on-site testing is still needed to confirm the cause.
